1. The Mango Tree

Whether you’re vegan or vegetarian, we believe you shouldn’t have to compromise when it comes to eating out because everybody deserves good food and a good time.

The Mango Tree offers just that with its full menu of locally sourced, exclusively vegan dishes inspired by world cuisine served in a very cool, welcoming and lively atmosphere.

The fairy lights by the large windows, coupled with the friendly staff give this place a homely vibe. The comfy outside area surrounded by mural paintings of mango trees add to this spot’s unique charm, as well as its name. The Mango Tree is small but cosy, laidback and unpretentious and the outside dining area is perfect for lunch in the sun.

So what should you try when you visit? We recommend trying their Moroccan Tagine, Mushroom Risotto the Jack Fruit Burger and the Mango Tree Pie which is their take on a Shepherd’s Pie. With so many tasty and fresh vegan options, we reckon you’ll want to go back to try the rest of the menu.

Known as one of the few solely vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Taunton, The Mango Tree is open from Tuesday to Friday for lunch from noon to 2:30pm and for dinner from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. As for Saturday, the restaurant is open from 11:30am to 10pm and on Sunday from 11:30am to 3:30pm.

Looking for a romantic and intimate restaurant in Taunton to make some unforgettable memories with your loved one? This fine dining restaurant in Taunton has earned its reputation for exquisite cuisine and has even been mentioned in the Michelin Guide!

By using the freshest locally sourced ingredients, paired with the excellent cooking skills of Chef Richard Guest, Augustus continues to have a significant influence on Taunton’s dining scene. When eating here, you can savour the incredible flavours of British, French and Asian dishes in their cosy bistro, or choose to enjoy the sunshine with a glass of wine in their quaint courtyard.

Although the vegetarian menu is not extensive, the choices won’t disappoint because you’ll come across dishes that you may never have seen on a menu before. That’s a breath of fresh air considering the hundreds of vegetarian burgers we’ve seen on every menu across the UK!

Some of our picks from their ‘A la Carte’ menu include their Lancashire Bomb Cheese Soufflé with courgette chutney and house salad as a starter. As for a main, their Risotto Primavera serves up big flavour.

If you love something sweet, we recommend trying their unique Raspberry & Elderflower Vacherin consisting of meringue, ice cream and fruits.

This restaurant has an expansive wine list too, many of which you can enjoy by the glass. If you’re unsure where to start, the staff are always happy to explain which wine pairs well with each dish.

3. Guddi and Gikki

This colourful and fun vegetarian-friendly restaurant in Taunton offers authentic home cooked North Indian comfort food. Sounds good right?

The vibrant decorations and Bollywood movie posters adorning the walls, as well as the welcoming and knowledgeable staff, just add to Guddi and Gikki‘s charm.

With its small bijou menu that rotates weekly, this family-run restaurant has earned its reputation for great food thanks to the perfect balance of seasoning, spices and ingredients they use in each dish. It’s not just your usual Indian classics too, as this restaurant incorporates cuisines that are staples to many of the different Indian provinces. That’s a big bonus as you may be surprised by just how diverse the flavours from different Indian regions can be.

With their weekly menu, we can’t guarantee what vegetarian dishes will be on offer, but some of the ones that stood out the most to us were their Aloo Bonda, Paneer Tikka, vegan Subz Kofta Curry and vegetarian Malai Kofta.

This spot does serve meat, but has such great vegan and vegetarian options that we had to include it on our list of the best vegetarian restaurants in Taunton.

4. Hub Box

A hearty burger is always a crowd-pleaser – at least it is for us! The fusion of soft burger bun, nicely seasoned patty, and oozing cheese can’t be beat. Yep, we do love a vegetarian burger when it’s done right.

And the Hub Box offers you just that and much more. This American inspired street food spot doesn’t just excel at burgers, but also creates incredible crafted drinks and scrumptious breakfast items, all served up in a relaxed ambience.

With exposed brick walls, sleek wooden floors, warm light, hanging wicker light shades, as well as wicker chairs, this casual dining spot is the perfect spot to catch up with friends around delicious food and drink. You may find yourself taking photos in every direction when visiting this chic restaurant, and even more pics when you see the huge portions on your plate!

With so much to choose from, we recommend some of the Hub Box’s award-winning burgers such as their vegan ‘PB Dirty Disco’ comprising of a plant-based chicken patty, vegan bacon, cheese, guacamole, and trimmings.

The unexpected taste from ‘It’s Seoul Good’ – a Korean twist on this burger – serves up big flavour too thanks to the breaded jackfruit, Korean BBQ sauce, gochujang mayo, kimchi and trimmings.

While those are good choices for vegans, if you’re vegetarian then the Hub Box’s ‘Big Cheese’ made up of buttermilk-fried halloumi, Swiss cheese, pineapple relish, pickled beetroot, garlic mayo and rocket is one of the best vegetarian burgers we’ve come across.

We know we made fun of vegetarian burgers further up this article but that’s because restaurants often see a veggie burger as the easy way to have a vegetarian option on the menu. However what the Hub Box have done is elevate the vegetarian burger to a whole new level. And that’s exactly why this restaurant – which does serve meat as well – deserves to be on our list of the best vegetarian restaurants in Taunton.

Hub Box in Taunton is open from Monday to Thursday from 11:30am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 9:30am to 11pm, and on Sunday from 9:30am to 10pm.

Situated in a former Victorian arts college, this restaurant oozes charm with its modern industrial feel, exposed brick walls and loads of different seating options. You don’t need to just come for food though, as you can enjoy their ‘Teatime Tipple’ which is a the happy hour from Sunday to Thursday that runs from 4pm to 8pm.

As for food, how does a classic British breakfast vegan-style sound? Their ‘Vegan Fry-up’ consisting of vegan sausage, hash browns, beans, mushroom, vine tomatoes, spinach, sourdough toast and vegan butter is fantastic, and means even those on a plant-based diet can have a big breakfast to start the day.

Or why not opt for their ‘Boundless Brunch’? With that you can have unlimited drinks with any breakfast dish of your choice. As for mains, their Vegan Avocado & White Bean Hummus Bowl or Vegan Cheeseburger are great options.

6. Ciao Amore

What better way to transition into the evening than to enjoy some classic Italian pizza in this only-dinner establishment?

Ciao Amore‘s interior is simple and might not impress at first sight, but that’s because all the effort and panache has gone directly into the delicious Italian cuisine they serve. This family-run spot excels at traditional authentic Italian dishes, but also provides a warm welcome and extremely attentive service.

We recommend trying their fresh Bruschetta Romana or the ‘Gnocchi Gorgonzola and Pere’ which comprises of fresh potato dumplings, gorgonzola cheese and fresh pears in a creamy sauce. Their mouth-watering ‘Cannelloni al Forno’ – pasta tubes filled with spinach and fresh ricotta, covered in a tomato sauce and oven baked – is also a great choice. And of course why not grab a classic Margherita?

Or as you’re eating Italian, why not wine? Well of these delicious dishes can be paired with their excellent selection of Italian wines.
